Writing Prompt: A Call For Manners

In a time when “plz” passes for “please” and “thx” for “thank you,” it’s no wonder that people’s use of manners and etiquette has become, well, abbreviated.

But some things are worth holding on to. (No passing gas at the kitchen table is one off the top of my head, thankyouverymuch.) So I ask, what piece of etiquette will you never forsake? And from where or whom did you learn it?

This could be a tribute to Grandma. A social commentary. A plea for reform. It’s up to you.

We all look forward to reading your work. Simply, e-mail: editor@hopscotchforwomen.com. The deadline is up to you.

Hop Tip: Baby Oil

Many people aren’t aware of the benefits and uses of baby oil. It’s likely a product we all have in our homes somewhere and is, by far, one of the cheapest toiletries out there, but can one really consider baby oil to be a beauty product? Absolutely.

The reasons why we use the oil on babies are because it’s super-moisturizing, lightweight, and safe, meaning it’s not bogged down with heavy ingredients like the products we occasionally buy for ourselves.

So, how does one use baby oil? One way is to coat your skin with it post-shower. Before completely toweling dry and while your pores are still wide open from the hot water, simply rub small amounts of the baby oil on your skin– all over or wherever you need a little hydration. Yes, it will be a little, well, oily, but either let it soak in before getting dressed or rub it into your skin until absorbed.

There may not yet be scientific tests to prove this, but I have seen women use baby oil every day– on their faces, necks, and bodies– and it seems to act as an anti-ager. Many of the anti-aging serums out there are lotions and moisturizers, so it sort of makes sense, right?

Finally, baby oil can act as a great make-up remover because of it’s oil base and hydrating effects. Be careful not to get it in your eyes, it is still an oil, after all.
