Writing Prompt: A Call For Manners

In a time when “plz” passes for “please” and “thx” for “thank you,” it’s no wonder that people’s use of manners and etiquette has become, well, abbreviated.

But some things are worth holding on to. (No passing gas at the kitchen table is one off the top of my head, thankyouverymuch.) So I ask, what piece of etiquette will you never forsake? And from where or whom did you learn it?

This could be a tribute to Grandma. A social commentary. A plea for reform. It’s up to you.

We all look forward to reading your work. Simply, e-mail: editor@hopscotchforwomen.com. The deadline is up to you.

In Love With Uncle Sam

By Britney Stevens

This season is all about taking masculine pieces and making them feminine.

Pairing a delicate blouse with baggy boyfriend jeans, or strutting in a tailored blazer and killer pumps are the latest high fashion trends we hope stick around.

So what’s our current covet? The military-inspired jacket.

A runway look from Haider Ackermann.

Forever 21's military-inspired double-breasted wool coat.

Whether you’re interested in a warm, winter coat or a stylish, fitted blazer, these darlings give the appearance of edgy class–not to mention a clean-cut fit. Wear yours with a frilly dress, ballerina skirt, or sexy thigh-high boots. The delicious contrast between beauty and brawn has me craving a complete closet whitewash. Perhaps, I’ll round up my own troops to join me.
